Back to the studio after Summer.
As summer winds down, getting back into the studio can feel both exciting and challenging. After time away, I always find I need a little extra time to shake off the holiday vibes and find my creative rhythm again.
This year I seemed to have gotten back into it quite quickly. I think it has something to do with the fact that I got barely any studio time over the long six weeks because my son had to have an emergency operation, right at the start of the school holidays. He’s fine luckily, just very accident prone. And we were able to reschedule some of the family trips for later in August when he was out of his leg brace.
It all worked out and we did have some lovely moments as a family but come September I was desperate to paint!
I always start back having a little organise and tidy, boxing off the admin tasks that have been building up, and then jumping into the play stage. No expectations for instant productivity, just a bit of time getting comfortable again and getting the creativity flowing. No pressure.
It has actually been very productive though, maybe I need the summer off every year. I finished a huge abstract landscape and a couple of midsized paintings and managed to get them on to my shop. I have also been working on some smaller paintings. I love how these have turned out and how the new ones are emerging. The colours flow and fade into each other creating a calm, almost dreamy feel. And I have mixed soft and more striking elements to bring balance to the work, making it both peaceful and engaging.
Keep an eye out on my shop for the new small paintings, they should be dropping soon if I can keep the momentum going. I will also be sending tickets out to my mailing list for events coming up before Christmas.
